We Are Waiting to Read Your Story... Click here to add it!

From “OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!” By Dr. Seuss

You can get so confused that you’ll start in to race down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space, headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.

The Waiting Place…for people just waiting.

Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite or waiting around for Friday night or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil, or a Better Break or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants or a wig with curls, or Another Chance. Everyone is just waiting.

No! That’s not for you!

Somehow you’ll escape all that waiting and staying. You’ll find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing. With banner flip-flapping, once more you’ll ride high! Ready for anything under the sky.

  1. Wendy says:

    While We Wait
    I’m waiting
    I’m waiting on You, Lord
    And I am hopeful
    I’m waiting on You, Lord
    Though it is painful
    But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
    Taking every step in obedience
    While I’m waiting
    I will serve You
    While I’m waiting
    I will worship
    While I’m waiting
    I will not faint
    I’ll be running the race
    Even while I wait

Aren’t we all waiting for something? Dr. Seuss had great insight in “Oh The Places You’ll Go”…”The Waiting Place…for people just waiting.

We wait for an old friend to respond to a post, for someone to forgive us, to make the first move, to apologize… we wait for the news our very heart seems to hinge on…
We Wait. As I wrote in a card to someone whose baby is in NICU, the Lord ministered to me.
There are some good answers to the pointless, useless questions we ask while we are waiting:

“We Wait in Hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his Holy name. May your unfailing love rest on us, even as we put our trust in you.” Ps 33:20-22
“In you, O Lord, I have taken refuge …I will be glad and rejoice in your love for you saw my affliction & knew the anguish in my soul…I trust in you O Lord; I Say You Are My God”, my times are in your hands…
Be Strong and Take Heart, All YOU who Hope In The Lord…” Ps 31: 1,7,14,24
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Cro 4:18
“For we live by faith not by sight” 2 cor 5:7
“So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith”
(Can you fathom his emotions as he led his son up the mountain to sacrifice to the Lord, out of sheer obedience?!! Yet how great is out God who provided the Ram, an alternate means of obedience that He spoke to Abraham about at the last minute)Gal 3:9
My favorite from the IVF that led to the birth of Samuel & Oliver:
“The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deaut 31:8
“What then? ONLY that in every way, whether in pretense of in truth, Christ is proclaimed and in this I rejoice Yes, I will rejoice” Phil 1:18

What it all comes down to in the Waiting Place, is Faith. You can’t see if the phone will ring, if the results you are looking for will be there, if the raise will come that you hoped for (Griswold, don’t bet on that pool yet)… you cannot see if the job interview will evolve from the submitted resume to your “dream job” or if your specific prayers will be answered. These things we cannot grasp or see.
But we can see the goodness all around us, the squeak of a waking baby, the grin as they see you come in… the blossoms erupting from trees that seemed dead in the winter. Bulbs pressing with all their might to make it up to the sunlight through the cold, dark dirt.
Everyone is waiting for something. Let’s put it in the Hands of He who already holds the planet earth. He wants our heart in whole, not in part. Trust in Him completely as you wait, whether of not you get what you are looking for. He has so much incredible beauty in store, you just cannot see it (yet).
